本周发布的新版Google Maps开始测试一项新功能：“My Location”。这项功能可以在不包含GPS硬件的手持设备上模拟GPS。
定位原理说起来很简单，就是利用蜂窝网络的发射塔，对持有移动电话的用户所处的位置进行粗略的定位。可以将用户的位置定位在10个街区以内。Google的帮助页中是这样解释的：“My Location功能可以从用户所处的位置附近的移动电话发射塔获得位置信息，基于此进行粗略的定位——这并不是GPS，但是已经很像真实的GPS了（平均的精度可以达到1,000m以内）。”
My Location功能可以在多种智能手机平台上使用，包括Java，黑莓，Windows Mobile和诺基亚的Symbian。
目前，My Location尚不支持iPhone，不过鉴于Google和Apple的关系这么暧昧，加上iPhone SDK即将发布，iPhone即将支持Java平台….，基于My Location的”iGPS”离iPhone用户已经很近了！
